Bass Lake Resort, July Newsletter 2022
Winter is upon us here at Gettysburg Battlefield Resorts in South Central Pennsylvania!
“July is hot afternoons and sultry nights and mornings when it is a joy just to be alive. July is a picnic and a red canoe and a sunburned neck and a softball game and ice tinkling in a tall glass. July is a blind date with summer.”
—Hal Borland
As I sit down under the awning at Site 97, the sound of children playing Marco Polo at the pool blends perfectly with the steady staccato of cornhole bags hitting a wooden board, and the crackling snap of our flags as they bend to the summer breeze. The heady scent of evening campfire combined with honeysuckle perfumes the air. One the front porch at the store, a family is enjoying ice cream cones and a couple waves a friendly hello, as they pass by on their golf cart. Their three small dogs add to the summer symphony with an enthusiastic greeting, one so enthusiastic that he barely can stay positioned on his owner’s lap. Campers are decked out in red, white and blue, with patriotic banners and signs galore.
Is there anything better than July in Gettysburg? I think not!
Preparations are under way our Light Up the Night – 4th of July Celebration. We will have glow sticks, glow in the dark paint for all, and a concert by GBR Favorite, Chris Woodward and Shindiggin’! Then it’s Bike Week in Gettysburg! This year we are opening up Bike Week by holding our 2nd Annual GBR Bike Ride to benefit the PA Wounded Warriors Program. A BBQ and a LODI concert will top off our annual fundraiser! As if that wasn’t enough fun, we go from motorcycles to pirate ships with our Pirate Weekend, and then move the calendar to celebrate Christmas in July!. Finally, we wrap up July with our 2nd Annual WWII Re-enactment Weekend. There will be re-enactors from the Pacific Theater to D-Day to the Homefront, and a special performance by the Gettysburg Big Band!
In addition to our scheduled activities on the resort, the new concierge service has been well received by members and staff alike. We have made dinner reservations for families and couples celebrating a special occasion, booked carriage rides, facilitated online tickets for bus and ghost tours, sent several folks on a tour of Lancaster and families to many of the museums in town. Come see us in the sunroom, Thursdays through Saturdays. If you need recommendations for dinner, or something to do with the kids, or want to sign-up for a ghost tour or would like us to help celebrate a special occasion, please let us know!
We are so excited about our 2022 Weekend Themes! You can see them on FB and in CampersApp! If you need help with CampersApp, we are here to help!
There are definitely some weekends when members might want to plan to bring special items or costumes to participate, so we are giving you a sneak peek!

As the weather gets a little colder each night, we all snuggle one step closer to the campfire. The leaves have almost finished falling and everything looks beautiful. What a perfect season we have here in Georgia.

February has made her presence known with cold winds, snow flurries creeping in, and the trees have finally dropped all their leaves.
I see the colours everywhere as I drive around this beautiful place, we call Rocky Fork Ranch.
