August update everyone! It’s hot…. We had a very wet and cool July, but we ended with a great week of sunshine and warm weather. We’re glad to see August come into town, and know that the next 6 weeks are going to be awesome in so many ways. A shout out to all our members that have stepped up and volunteered for special projects. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
On July 31st, we hosted our annual member build project. We have a plan to improve the front entrance at our upper clubhouse and will continue to work on that for the rest of the year. We planted 55 plants along our old fence line at the mini-golf course. The hedgerow of plants will look absolutely fantastic next summer and for many years to come. Those that helped us out that day received a commemorative t-shirt and hamburger lunch. Thanks so much for all your help everyone.
For those of you that like hiking, our member Scott Spagnola has been busy creating some new trails. He has also improved tent sites for everyone to use. Tent sites 22 and 23 were his first work of love, and he’s slowly working his way up the line. He’s marked a few trails that start out by tent site 32 and will continue to work on more trails when he’s camping here. Also, a special shout out to Jim White for working on the hiking trails from the lake to the front gate. We appreciate all he’s done for us.
The activities department hosted several fun activities in July. Look on Facebook at the photos that got uploaded and live videos for some fun memories that were made. Sledding down the hills during Christmas in July was fun, and even though it rained nonstop in Insect and Butterflies weekend, the kids had a great time looking and finding caterpillars and bugs.
During August, look forward to Pets & Pals weekend on the 6th & 7th, and Survival weekend on 8-13 & 14th. We have a Western-themed weekend planned for August 20th, and then a weekend with a few carnival games on August 28th. Also on August 28th, a bus trip to the Turning Stone Casino is planned. There is still a limited number of seats left, but you’ll need to call or e-mail Phyllis right away to get on board that bus. blrrecreation@travelresorts.co
See you in August.
